2. How does this work?
Answer:
We will provide you a Telephone Adapter which you
will plug 1 side into your
router or DSL modem or cable connection, and the other side
you will plug into a regular phone set. Then you can start
making phone calls from your phone just as if it's
on a traditional telephone line. You do not need to turn on
your computer to place
calls, and you can also browse the Internet while you are
talking on the phone.
Please make a note to not plug this telephone adapter
into the phone wall jack
if there is a dial-tone as the voltage will short-circuit
the device.
3. Do I need to have a IP phone or special phone set?
Answer: No, you do not need to have a IP phone or special
phone set. Our Telephone
Adapter works with any regular phone sets.
4. Can I travel with this Telephone Adapter and still make
calls from it?
Answer: Yes, real mobility can be achieved! Our Telephone
Adapter is designed to work
anywhere in the world as long as there is high-speed
Internet connection. This
compact and light-weight device is easy to travel with. And
your phone no. is
programmed in the device, so you can enjoy all the great
features and same calling
plan while you are traveling.
5. Can all the phone jacks in the whole house be wired to
use this broadband
phone service?
Answer: Once you setup and connect to our phone network, and
you have disconnected
your traditional phone line. Make sure there is no dial-tone
or any static hissing sound from
your wall jack. There should be complete silence. Then you
can plug our telephone adapter into any one of your wall phone
jacks and all the
phone jacks in your house should then be working. Please make a note
to not plug this telephone
adapter into the phone wall jack if you do not hear complete
silence as
the voltage will
short-circuit the device.
6. How do I sign-up?
Answer: Simply pick a phone plan that most suit your phone
calling needs, then either
contact us (by phone, email) or sign-up through our website.
After we received your
$39.99 activation fee and first month payment, we will send
you the telephone
adapter, or we can come to your home or business to perform
on-site installation at your request. Once installation is done, you can
immediately start using
our services.
We can provide you a new phone no. for you to use right
away, or if you prefer to
keep your existing no. then we will send you a LOA form
(Letter of Authorization).
After signing and returning the form to us, we will start
the process of transferring
your no. to our network. This process will take about 4-8
weeks and an extra $5 1-time
fee. During this time your phone service will not be
interrupted and you can use
our LamWire services with your assigned phone no. Once the
transfer process is complete, we will notify you. Then you can cancel your
telephone line and long distance
account with your phone company. LamWire will not be responsible
for canceling your existing phone
service with your phone company.
7. How am I billed?
Answer:
LamWire
only offers convenient online billing. Your credit card
(Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express) is charged
automatically on a monthly basis. Your account will be
activated upon sign up. However, your billing cycle begins
when you have received the LamWire phone adapter and have
successfully installed it.
Currently, each
month we deduct your balance automatically from the credit
card you provided at signup. You will be sent a statement
via email detailing your call log and charges.

8. How is this different from traditional phone service?
Answer:
LamWire broadband phone service provide great features,
unlimited calling, and low price
International rates. Using our services will usually save you 60% from your
traditional phone bill. You use your phone to make calls and
receive calls the same
way. During power outage your phone will not work as it
needs the Internet
connection. Moreover, currently LamWire does not
support 911 Emergency dialing.
9. Will there be technical support if I need it?
Answer: Yes, Whether you subscribe to our business plans or
our residential plans,
your satisfaction is our priority. We can be reached by
phone or email.
10.
Is there a contract?
Answer:
No, there is no contract and you can cancel the phone
service anytime. You will only be responsible for the
phone bill until the end of the month. For the
'Pay-as-you-go' plan, you keep the phone adapter and there
is no dis-connection fee. For all the other phone
plans, you have to return us the phone adapter or pay a
$49.99 dis-connection fee.

Can I dial 911 with this phone service?
Answer:
No, currently LamWire does not support 911 Emergency
dialing. Also, during power outage or your Internet
connection down time, your phone service will not work.
In situations like these, please contact your Internet
(Cable or DSL) company or your electric company.
12.
Can I dial 411 Directory Assisted Services?
Answer:
Yes, you can call (411) Directory Assisted Services on
LamWire phone services. Each call will be charged $1
each time.
13.
What are Regulatory Recovery Fee surcharges?
Answer:
The
Regulatory Recovery Fee is $1.50 per line. This is a fee that LamWire charges
its customers to recover costs related to the Federal Universal Service Fund (USF),
other similar funds, as well as domestic and international fees and surcharges.
Your monthly bill will reflect a Regulatory Recovery Fee a $1.50 for each line
on your account. You will not be charged a Regulatory Recovery Fee for Alternate
Phone Numbers.
14. Can I change my rate plan at any time?
Answer:
You can change your rate plan—with no
additional charges—as often as you want.
But we will be
changing it in a month to month boundary, your new plan will be effective come
1st of next month.
15. Do I need to have my computer
turned on while using LamWire phone services?
Answer:
No, LamWire phone service works independently from your computer, your computer
does not need to be turned on.
16. How fast of a Internet
connection do I need to use LamWire?
Answer:
To use the LamWire service, the only requirement is a
high-quality broadband connection. LamWire recommends at least 128kbs of
bandwidth (64kbs uplink and 64kbs downlink) be available per phone line.
Although 128kbs is the minimum required, we recommend 150kbs to allow for a
buffer of 22kbs for Internet usage (web browser and email) while talking on the
phone. You can check your internet connection speed with
an online tool provided by DSL Reports.
17. Are there any hidden costs with LamWire?
Answer:
LamWire
has no hidden costs. When you
sign up for service,
you will pay a one-time activation of $39.99 plus the first
month's service charge, plus shipping and handling fee if your
location is outside of our free installation areas. There is a
3% Federal Excise Tax on all service charges. There is a
Regulatory Recovery Fee of $1.50 per phone number in your
account. Directory Assistance (411) costs $1 per call.
International calls
are billed on a per minute basis. When dis-connecting
your phone services with LamWire, you are required to return
the LamWire IP phone adaptor to us or pay a $49.99 dis-connection
fee.
18. What ports do I need to open if my setup is behind a
firewall?
Answer:
No ports need to
be opening if you have a simple NAT router and the LamWore
Phone Adapter has a private IP address. Most LamWire customers
just connect their LamWire phone adapter to their router and
it works. LamWire is designed to work behind NAT routers.
If you have a firewall, you must give the LamWire Phone
Adapter rights to access certain Internet ports (5060-5061 UDP)
and (16384-16482 UDP). You will also need to disable "SPI"
if there is such function in your firewall.
